ALTENEW ACADEMY LEVEL 1 CHALLENGE
This post is about my challenge project for finishing level 1 of Altenew Educators Certification Program. The requirements of this challenge are to choose 3 class components and a recycled element to create two gift sets of 4-6 cards (including packaging), one feminine and one masculine. Each card should be different but still be similar and have a cohesive theme. Also, create a step-by-step tutorial of how to make these. #AltenewAcademy
The 3 elements of the classes I chose are:
1. layering stamps
2. using stencils
3. shine
The stamp set I chose is Star Builder layering stamp set and stencil.
My recycled elements are punched stars from an aluminum foil box.
Here are the eight cards I made: white feminine, blue for masculine.
I made gift boxes out of cardstock using my Brother Scan-n-Cut. I used stencils and inks on the top while it was flat, then glued the corner flaps into a box.
On the blue cards I used white pigment ink for some, using a cosmetic sponge as a dauber. I had to do the blue dye inks twice since dye absorbs into the paper. The only pigment ink I have is white. Tip: die inks are absorbed in the paper but pigment inks stay on top.
Tip: Tape the stencils in place so you can check success without moving it in case you need to blend some more ink. I used magnets on a metal art board (by Tonic Studios, but is discontinued.)
On the white cards, I stamped with dye inks, then added a little gold embossing powder on clear embossing ink.
On the blue cards I stamped using clear embossing ink and heat embossed with white, clear, and metallic gold and silver powders.
The word “shine” was cut with the die in a die cutting machine out of shiny silver cardstock and glued on the card front.
I used a small star punch on some shiny part of an aluminum foil box and glued on the cards for a recycled element.
